Halyard refurbishes Classic Gentleman's Launch
Leading marine sound and exhaust specialists, Halyard, is assisting with the custom restoration of a classic 1930s Gentleman’s launch.
The 22foot runabout had been left derelict in a barn for over 35 years when a local businessman, from Poole, Dorset saw the opportunity and bought it on eBay in October 2013. Boat builders, CServe, were then appointed to carefully and thoughtfully restore the boat for the owner - a local sailing and powerboat collector.
Halyard were brought in as part of CServe’s refurbishment team and were given the difficult brief of fitting the boat with modern sound and vibration reduction solutions without taking away from the classic characteristics of this British Power Boat Company runabout and its V8 engine. Halyard’s solution was a complex system comprising of noise insulation and the installation of Aquadrive and specialist Aquadrive Mounts to reduce vibration.
Chris Somner, owner of CServe Ltd, commented, “The Halyard team have been extremely helpful and have played a key role in the refurbishment by offering support, advice and innovative solutions to the delicate issues around combining modern equipment in a sensitive, classic restoration environment.
“The client is delighted with the final result - a discreet, vibration free installation of a 180hp 1950s Chris-Craft 283 V8, from Halyard, into a beautiful piece of English marine history.”
He added, “The boat will be put to good use by our client, who will be showing it at classic boat venues across Europe and will also use it for picnics on Poole Harbour.”
